CODB Acquires Bread Beauty Supply

The acquisition marks the first step in CODB’s mission to build and scale brands at the intersection of culture, community and commerce.

CODB, a holding company founded by Topicals CEO Olamide Olowe and President Sochi Mbadugha, has acquired textured hair care brand Bread Beauty Supply.

At a time when many companies are pulling back on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, CODB is doubling down—proving that championing cultural consumers isn’t just an ethical stance, but a business imperative.

“At a time when DEI commitments are being rolled back, it’s critical that Black-owned businesses not only survive—we have to win,” said Olamide Olowe, co-founder of CODB. “Maeva Heim, Bread’s founder, is one of the most talented creatives in the space and has led Bread to have a major impact in the hair care industry, and with CODB’s resources and expertise, we’re ensuring that it continues to grow while remaining deeply rooted in its mission and creative ethos.”

The acquisition marks the first step in CODB’s mission to build and scale brands at the intersection of culture, community and commerce, setting a new standard for what the future of consumer products should look like, officials said.

As part of the acquisition, Bread’s founder Maeva Heim will remain with the brand as chief creative officer, continuing to drive the brand’s creative vision and product innovation. Additionally, Olowe and Mbadugha will serve as strategic advisors, while a newly appointed leadership team will manage the brand’s day-to-day operations.

Distinct Entities

CODB and Topicals will operate as distinct entities, each with a unique mission. While Topicals continues to redefine skincare, CODB will look to acquire and build businesses that prioritize culture and community—creating lasting opportunities for creative entrepreneurs. In addition, CODB will be subsidizing marketing costs for other small businesses in efforts to increase the visibility and market share of companies within the community with the help of a network of cultural agencies and partners. CODB investors include Top Dawg of TDE; Ayra Starr; Krept and Konan; Jhalesa Seymour (Founder of Salt.xo); Baroline (Founder of Great Day Records); Toni Fola-Alade (Culture Capital); TNDE Group (family office of Tunde Folawiyo); and Daminiyi Solebo, among others.

With Bread Beauty Supply now under CODB’s umbrella, the brand is positioned for sustained growth while maintaining its signature innovation and commitment to textured hair care. The acquisition will support Bread’s upcoming expansion into more Sephora USA doors this year and a rollout to all Ulta Beauty doors in April.
